Advent means “a coming or arrival”. In the Christian faith Advent means the
coming of Christ. As a Christian
celebration, Advent is more accurately a preparation for the Advent of
Christ. We are preparing our minds, our
hearts, and our focus, to fully celebrate the glory of Christmas Day. By preparing ourselves ahead of time, we will
experience more wonder and more amazement at the birth of Christ.
Hopefully the
hecticness that usually accompanies this season will fall to the background and
Christ will stay in the foreground. We,
of all people, should stand in awe at the great gift God has given us through
Jesus. Allow the simple fact of God’s great love for mankind…His great love for
YOU to penetrate to the depths of your soul.
Drink it in, rest in it, and by all means enjoy it!
Advent will culminate in the lighting of
the “Christ Candle” on Christmas Eve. We invite you join us for the Christmas
Eve Candlelight Service, 7:00-8:00PM, on Thursday,
December 24.
As Christmas is celebrated each year, time
brings us closer to the Second Advent of Jesus. As Christians we are called to
prepare for His return. This should make us more zealous in sharing the good
news of the birth of a Savior not only with our children but with those who do
not know the true meaning of Christmas.

Kelly Brooks is in Wroclaw, Poland leading a short-term missions team sponsored by Helps International Ministry. The team is assisting at a church day camp outreach to children ages 6-12
from the ghetto area of Wroclaw. Many of the kids from this
area come from alcoholic families. Camp activities include sports,
arts and crafts, integration games, English classes and Bible studies. One of the team members had been severely ill, in the emergency room, on the night before flying out of Charlotte last Friday. He was so thankful to learn that the body at Gateway and other churches was praying for him. Please continue to lift Kelly and the team through the rest of the camp (July 25) and their return flight home (July 28).
Diana Wolfe has been in Boiling Springs, NC, for the month of July serving as a staff member at Crossroads Ministries summer camps. By the end of this week, almost 2,000 teens will have attended one of four week-long camps that included high energy activities, awesome worship, and intense discipleship. Last week, she had the opportunity to lead a 13-year girl in the prayer of salvation. For more details, click here.
In August, Diana will be going back to Boiling Springs for a year-long discipleship program. You can sign-up to be one of her partners, through financial or prayer support, and be able to receive regular updates on her experiences.

I just received an email from Kelly Brooks and they have arrived safely in Poland. Michael is feeling good and did well on the plane (a nine hour flight). Praise the Lord!! Kelly is really excited about being in Poland again and has requested us to pray about the following for the missions team: Pray: that we all recover from lack of sleep (and sickness).
That we will be flexible and resilient to any and all events and changes
That our focus would be on wrapping the arms of Jesus around any and everyone we meet
And that our relationship with the Church and the Polish team helping us would be a bond that is so tight it cannot be explained how we had only just met each other except through the name of Jesus. It will be great to hear about all that is accomplished in Him when they get back!! Thank you for the prayers!

I just spoke with Renae Brooks and they are on their way to take the missions team to Charlotte to leave for Poland. One of the members of the team, Michael (13 years old), had to go to the emergency room last night because he has had severe pain. He believes this is an attack of the enemy to try to keep him from going on the trip. He is planning to persevere and still leave this afternoon - the flight leaves at 5:30.
Please pray for all pain to leave his body before the flight leaves and to give his family confidence that he will be OK. He is Kelly's cousin and has a very strong walk with Jesus. Let's stand and join our faith with his for a total healing and for the enemy to be defeated!
